Mt. Himlung Expedition Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel (1,300m).

Day 2 Climbing preparation.
These two days are scheduled for climbing and document preparation. In these days, you will also prepare for the expedition and take sessions from experts about the usage of mountaineering equipment. Meanwhile, if time permits, you can also explore some of the UNESCO world heritage sites in the Valley. Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Swayambhunath, and Kathmandu Durbar Square are some of the prime destinations for sightseeing tours.Overnight stays at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 3 These two days are scheduled for climbing and document preparation. From Kathmandu, it is a six to seven hours drive to Besisahar. Be ready to be amazed by the natural and cultural diversity along the way. You’ll be driving west via Prithvi Highway as we continue our ride further downstream along with Trishuli river flowing on the edge. Crossing small towns of Malekhu and Muglin, you’ll make your way towards Besisahar.Overnight stay at Besisahar.

Day 4 Drive from Besisahar to Koto (2-3 hours) (2,600m)
After breakfast, you'll be driving towards Syange. Along with a gorgeous view of snow-capped mountains, beautiful waterfalls, rivers, and green hills, you'll reach Baharchhap via Dharapani. From here, driving through the rough trails of Annapurna circuit, you’ll move towards the village of Koto. It is a short drive of two to three hours from Besisahar. Overnight stay at Koto.

Day 5 Trek from Koto to Meta (3,560m) (7-8 hours).
On the fifth day, you'll be entering a restricted area of Nar Phu Valleys after getting the permit at the Police Check Post. Along with Soti Khola, the forest of pine and rhododendron and beautiful waterfalls, you'll march towards Dharmasala. The trail is steep from here as you walk past sloppy landscapes and narrow zigzag paths to reach the settlement of Meta. Overnight stay at Meta.

Day 6 Trek from Meta to Kyang (3,840m) (3-4 hours).
Early in the morning, you’ll start your trek towards Kyang village along with a stunning view of Pisang Peak(6,091m).As you’ll walk towards the village of Chyakhu viaJhunum, you’ll cross two rivers including Murju Khola. From here, the trail leads you to the hamlet of Kyang crossing long terrains and chortens. Overnight stay at Kyang.

Day 7 Trek from Kyang to Phu Gaon (3,900m) (3-4 hours).
After crossing Kyang and then Phu Khola, you enter the large forest of blue pine along with a sublime view of snow-capped mountains including Annapurna I(8,091m) and Annapurna IV(7,525m). On the way forward,you can also visit the monasteries along the way. As we reach near Phu Gaon, a glorious view of Himlung Himal appears at a distance. Phu is a small medieval village with a unique culture and tradition. Overnight in Phu.

Day 8 Phu Gaon to Himlung Base Camp (4,900m) (4-5 hours).
Today, you’ll be trekking towards Himlung Base Camp. Continuing the walk along with beautiful mountain sceneries and yak pastures as the trail passes through snow-covered terraces and long glaciers. Leaving the route for Ratna Chuli Base Camp, you'll take a steep to ascend to the top of the ridge and finally reach the base camp where you set your tents. Overnight stay at Himlung Base Camp.

Day 9-24 Climbing period Himlung Summit (7,126m) and base camp.
The interval between these days is your climbing period. After a proper rest and climbing preparation for a day, you’ll ascend towards Camp I from the base camp. You’ll be using Crampons and Ice Axe as you move through the snow-covered terraces. Crossing glaciers along with a view of high snow-capped mountains, you'll reach Camp I. It’s a steep ascent to the Camp II from Camp I. You’ll march forward on a fixed rope from here. A pleasing view of Annapurna range and Dhaulagiri(8,167m) greets us once you reach the top of Camp II. Finally, crossing snowy hills, you’ll reach Camp III. It might take several attempts for the ascent. From here, you’ll make your ascend to the top of Mt. Himlung(7,126m). Once at the top, a feeling of pleasure and satisfaction makes your heart full of happiness and delight as you’ll witness the sublime view of many snow-capped mountains. Following the same path, you’ll return back to base camp. Overnight stays in tented camps.

Day 25 Trek from basecamp from Phu Gaon (3,900m)(5-6 hours).
From basecamp, you’ll descend towards Phu Gaon. Following the same trails, you'll cross yak-pastures, beautiful forest, sloppy landscapes, and high hills. On the way back, the stunning views of Annapurna I(8,091m), Annapurna IV(7,525m), and Dhaulagiri(8,167m) are certainly eye-catching. Finally, you’ll reach Phu Gaon after a five to six hours of walk. Overnight stay at Phu Gaon.

Day 26 Trek from Phu Gaon to Meta (3,560m) (6-7 hours).
Along with a magnificent view of Himlung Himal (7,126m), you’ll descend towards Kyang crossing Phu Khola. You’ll walk past long terrains and chortens. Finally, crossing the settlement of Chyakhu and then Murju Khola, you’ll reach your destination from where you’ll get a view of Annapurna II(7,937m), Pisang Peak(6,091m), and Lamjung Himal(6,983m). Overnight stay at Meta.

Day 27 Trek from Meta to Koto (2,600m) (7-8 hours).
After breakfast, you’ll be leaving Meta and trekking towards Koto. Descending through the forest of rhododendron and pine, wildlife, and lush vegetation, you reach Dharamsala, you'll walk further down along with Soti Khola crossing numerous waterfalls and suspension bridges. The trek will follow the Nar Khola for most parts of the journey. Overnight stay at Koto.

Day 28 Trek from Koto to Besisahar (760m) (5-6 hours).
On the 28th day, you’ll be returning back to Besisahar. As you reach near the settlement of Baharchhap, you’ll get to observe the unique culture and tradition of Sherpa and Gurung people. Along with occasional glimpses of snow-capped mountains, you’ll reach Besisahar walking past the beautiful settlement of Dharapani.Overnight stay at Besisahar.

Day 29 Drive from Besisahar to Kathmandu and transfer to Hotel (6-7 hours).
Today you’ll be bidding farewell to the Himalayas. From Besisahar, you’ll be driving for six to seven hours to reach Kathmandu. You’ll cross the towns of Mugling and Malekhu along the Trishuli River. Along the way, enchanting views of mountains and hillswill make up for an enjoyable ride. In Kathmandu, you can shop for gifts and souvenirs which reflect your stay in the country. Overnight stay at a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 30 Final departure.
Today is your last day in Nepal. You’ll be transferred to Tribhuvan International Airport by our staff member two hours prior to your scheduled flight. You can even share your experience with us on the way. Goodbye!
